62 Cats removed from Man's home

A man had 62 cats removed from his home in Chicago this week, though only 47 of them were alive.  The house was in such a state of disrepair courtesy of cat feces, dead cats and food that the Cook County (the very same as in the Blues Brothers) will have to raze the home.

The South Suburban Humane Society donned protective chemical suits and spent Tuesday and most of Wednesday pulling cats -- alive, dead and nearly dead -- from every feces-covered corner of the home.

Authorities said the 57-year-old owner had been hoarding cats for at least 20 years.

Cat food, litter and waste covered every square inch of the home, and the animals had burrowed into the walls and ceiling. A boneyard of decayed cats covered the lawn behind the property. [Chicago Sun Times]

Meow Mix House - Bambi looks for a new home

Poor Bambi, who was transferred like Cinderella from a New York shelter to the Meow Mix cat house, has yet to be adopted.

"Maybe it's the New York thing," Keith Fernbach, a publicist who helped develop the show, told the New York Post. "She's not the most social one in the group."

Lewis Lives

Lewis the cat remains free, but has to stay home.  Not sure how easily this will be managed as some cats like to escape, but hopefully Lewis will be able to stay cool.

A Connecticut judge on Tuesday spared the life of alleged serial-scratcher Lewis the cat, whom even Prozac could not tame, but ordered that the felonious feline remain inside his owner's home at all times. [CNN.com]

Garfield run over by Cars

Garfield opened fairly poorly this weekend, though that was probably not that unexpected.

The weekend's other new wide release, 20th Century Fox's "Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties," opened weakly with $7.2 million, coming in sixth. The live-action and animated sequel features the voice of Bill Murray as the comic-strip fat cat. "Garfield" had been competing for the same family audience as "Cars," whose voice cast includes Owen Wilson and Paul Newman in a comedy about a race car that learns the value of slowing down. "I guess the family audience picked their favorite and decided that this is what it was going to be," said Chuck Viane, head of distribution at Disney, which recently bought its animation partner Pixar, the maker of "Finding Nemo," "The Incredibles" and the "Toy Story" movies. Belle's Out!

In case you missed it (like we did), the first Kitty was voted off The Meow Mix House!

According to her blog, Belle apparently had no interest in the contests or in the communal living under the pressure of celebrity exposure.  Fortunately for Belle, she's been adopted andwillbe enjoying a year's supply of Meow Mix in her new home.
